The International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) is an international and interdisciplinary centre for research and education at Lund University – promoting sustainable solutions in the public and private sectors. IIIEE is a leader in research and teaching on key sustainability topics, including sustainable consumption and the circular economy. Their master’s programme in Environmental Management and Policy (EMP) – a leading programme run for almost 25 years – aims to equip students with knowledge and skills that will allow them to make a significant contribution to advancing sustainability solutions through working in business and/or in public policy.
For the last five years, Earthshine has been invited to teach The Business of Change – an intensive module developed for the EMP master’s programme – focused on how we plan for and execute appropriate change strategies to enable sustainable business success.
This module provides a blend of academic and practical perspectives, involving many case study examples, along with interactive discussions and group exercises, culminating in group presentations, discussions and feedback/evaluation.
Key learning outcomes: Students are able to understand the drivers for change, appraise different strategic approaches, apply critical thinking in different sectors, relate theory to practice, develop appropriate strategies, develop effective board-level communications, and build confidence in leading strategic-level change programmes.
Mike successfully challenges our students to advance their thinking about the nature of changes business will need to implement, as well as the concrete arguments that can be used to convince a board of directors that this is the right course of action. We keep bringing Mike back as a lecturer because of the content of what he teaches, but also because high is highly talented teacher, as is evident from the comments we get in the course evaluations.
